What are your thoughts on Archie Sonic's "Panic in the Sky" (#284-#287) So far, the story arc has revived somewhat both positive and negative reviews, but a lot of others sought the first issue (#284) as being the worst, because the heroes, who are all highly capable fighters and can stand their ground against the toughest of enemies, were all easily defeated by very pathetic villains who can be easily be brought down (The Bird Armada, Team Hooligan, The WitchCarters, and Tails Doll). They even said that this issue is proof that Ian Flynn abuses the "Worf Effect" which is a trope used to describe an unknown character easily besting a match against a well-known character who the audience knows is tough. Some even scratch their heads over Why Eggman would want to rule over a world that is already broken and destroyed, since all that would succeed is Dark Gaia pretty much destroying the world, with himself included!

Okay as again I've not read these issues because anything past 274 I pretty much stopped reading because the writing was just becoming worse and worse, but that doesn't mean I can't answer the questions. So lets tackle this  bit by bit

This is apparently the new bread and butter of the series, you should not have to dumb characters down in terms of there fighting ability to make the tension more or to add something more. The entire sonic cast has been know nto handle so much and was able to come out on top, and I'm gonan play devils advocate for a moment and say Flynn's writing was so terrible to me from the beginning it was only after the sonic Universe issues started the writing started to shift, with a few good exceptions of good stories ( and I use that term very loosely fyi ) later on he became worse and worse and ever since the law-suit Flynn has jsut be making shit up as he goes along which lets be honest only certain people can do and pull it off I tend to write this way myself and sometimes I get soemthing great others come out very mediocre and I'm not happy with out they turn out but Flynn doesn't have a high points anymore because for some reason he acts as if he is a slave to  Archie and he can't do anything, if previous writers tried there bed to write out sally or even kill her off he should jsut grow a pair and make the stories good enough regardless of what archie even says but then again he hated the Satam characters anyway,

" oh but hes trying to do lost hedgehog tales which takes place after the original story line "

Then why is he so slow on making it and making excuses for not having it posted already. but I'm losing my train of thought, as I've state before for both Blaze's story's shes played down, why?  the whole cast gets screwed over when things really could have gone down a better way but for that I'll add to the second part to Quinstiff's request

the "worf effect" as its called it good for maybe only twice in a series because its an unknown NEW person and you introduce them  by having them beat the main heroes then you started to establish who they are etc, but if your abuse it it makes every villain you make come off as cheap, and your doing it merely for shock value because you can't make a good story any other way.

Now about eggman wanting to take over a broken world, now if you told me you would integrate Sonic unleashes story into the comics I would question your taste because even if some may like Sonic Unleashed to me the entire story of that game was writer suicide. Dark gaia light gaia breaking the world up into pieces  to me it made the world appear so small like there wasn't much else you could do with it, and your going to build a story out of thie, I would call it a bad idea.  Even from Transformers prime  I wasn't fond of the idea that the earth was formed from unicrons core that didn't really sit with me. But back to eggman I believe hes just the quote un quote "villain" now and that he still has "plot armor" for almost everything or for a better way of saying hes a "villain gary-sue" a villain gary-sue is my way of making a villain that is too controlling for every other treat in the series and no other antagonists are given a spotlight  because they are so OP and regardless of whither there goals make any fucking sense...

To fix all of this would be rather easy, if you wantot use Dark gaia and Light Gaia thats fine, but take out the fact of them being at the center of the earth and establish there battle took place on the planet itself. Give the heroes more of a upper hand in most of the conflicts and make it a equal battle ground,  finally have eggman get killed off oh wait sorry thats me wishful thinking again.

But seriously I don't' think much of the writing anymore at this point from Flynn and worst thing is I heard he going to be writing for Sonic Boom the TV show now, if you thought the show was bad before its going to be real garbage now. So in the end, Sonic and co have handled so many big threats before but for the sake of shock and tension they are played down and it doesn't work and it never has, best way to fix it is to stop playing them down , give them the upper hand once in a while or better yet a desperate villain is more interesting in the heroes being a tight spot because we know heroes always stay in a straight and narrow but villain don't follow that code, and its always interesting to see what lengths they will go for there way to win and we see the heroes tackle that challenge thats sounds more fun. Instead of always expecting the worse for the good guys

*cough*beast wars*cough*

so yeah thats my thoughts, if you have more to add leave your comments below. And hope you have a wonderful day.

You've made a really good no-nonsense argument here. Good job. :)

I don't have any questions I could think of. But what's wrong with "Beast Wars"? I've never watched the show, to be honest. ^^;
And Ian Flynn's gonna do Sonic Boom, the tv show?! Are you [bleep]-ing kidding me?! If the show wasn't terrible before, oh boy, are we in for a treat.

Also, I have a bit of an idea that might've made this story a little more interesting:
In issue #283, Sonic and Sally made a speech about their plan to save the world to nearly every hero they met: Honey the Cat, Coral and the kingdom of Meropis, the Shamar Freedom Fighters, the Wolf Pack, The Shijin Warriors, Mighty and his Gang, Charles the hedgehog and Muttski, Team Chaotix, and G.U.N. it got me thinking: wouldn't it be cool if they ALL band together in Panic in the Sky? That way, they could've given the Freedom Fighters a helping hand during the Bird Armada attack, and actually making the battle become really epic! I mean, come on! This is a missed opportunity here! That would've given all those guys a huge spotlight for crying out loud! At least the first thing Eggman would do first was attack the OTHER freedom fighters first before taking on Sonic and his friends. I'll even go so far as to have Nepthys, the Egg Boss of of the Shamar Region, betray Eggman and help her fellow Shamar freedom fighters! Or have Cassia and Clove see through Eggman's delusional plan for world domination and decide to betray him and help the freedom Fighters! Or how about this: Phage or another villain somehow exposes Honey on her cheating in nearly every match in front of everyone and have her reputation ruined and also getting her banned from ever competing in Breezie's tournament. That way, Honey would realize the error of her ways and have her redeem herself by becoming a hero and also becoming friends with Tails! They would still do the whole clothes model thing for her business, but have her go alongside Tails during their photo ops, but I'm getting ahead of myself here. ^^; I mean, wouldn't that be awesome?! I think it would! What do you think? :D

awesome I'm glad this was too your liking ( I was little worried I won't lie ^^; )

Also "beast wars" the first season I really loved when back when I was little, but later in the season even thought both sides were working with very little the story always shifted the idea that  predacons have more of the upper hand all the time and not the autobots  it was too a point where the conflict was feeling one sided and the third season is just bad..  lets just say in the end  cybertron becomes a organic/machine hybrid some how  dubbed "reformatted"

as for your idea I do like it alot xD it sounds like a fun idea and pulling everyone together it would be a great watto see how alot of them would bounce off one another depending on who is in what group

Well, you did your very best! ;)

I see.

Yeah, it does sound like a fun idea! Especially with my idea on Honey's redemption being involved, don't you think so?
